Two-year-old boy drowns and parents turn to local community for support
Palm Beach Gardens, FL - Every child is special and Jake was no exception. He almost always had a smile on his face, especially when he met people. He understood humor and had the ability to create his own happiness from all the good and wonderful things this life has to offer. He loved the simple things like lights, fans, frogs, spiders, lizards, shapes, the moon and his favorite thing, pushing his baby stroller around.
After Jake passed away at the age of 2 years and 10 months in a drowning accident November 30, 2013, while on vacation for thanksgiving, his parents founded the Live Like Jake Foundation to raise awareness for drowning prevention. They provide swim scholarships for those who cannot afford the lessons as well as provide emotional and financial assistance for families who have lost a loved one or have a child with critical care needs.
Roarke and Keri also have two daughters Julia (3 ½ years old) and Josie (2 years old), who have both graduated from their Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) lessons. Julia and Josie both swim like a fish. Does your child know how to Self-Rescue?
According to the Center for Disease Control, drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of four and Florida having the highest drowning rate in the nation.
Please join them in raising drowning awareness in Abacoa on May 13th Jupiter, FL for the 3rd annual 5K race! In 2016, the first race had nearly 1300 participants and over 80 sponsors and was a huge success. 500+ ISR Self-Rescue swim lesson scholarships were given in just 2 ½ years and the awareness continues…
