Recycle Spring Cleaning Wastes

Pollution prevention starts at home

By Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County March 10, 2023

As you clean out home hazards from sheds, garages and under sinks this spring, remember that certain items require special disposal. Cleaners, paints, pesticides, and automotive products don’t belong in the regular trash, recycle bins, or down storm drains. Instead, Palm Beach County residents can dispose of their unwanted spring-cleaning chemicals at one of seven SWA Home Chemical and Recycling Centers for FREE!

Last year, Palm Beach County residents safely disposed of or recycled more than 4.9M pounds of home chemicals. This included:

  • 2.7 million pounds of latex paints
  • 60,000 pounds of cleaners
  • 37,500 pounds of pesticides and poisons
  • Automotive products:
    • 507,000 pounds of used motor oil
    • 79,500 pounds of fuels
    • 40,000 pounds of antifreeze
    • 16,800 pounds used motor oil filters

Remember, pollution prevention starts at home. A full list of household hazardous wastes can be found at SWA.org/HCRC.
