Florida School for Dance Education

September 22, 2011

In addition to their pre-professional program for students, ages 10-18, the Florida School for Dance Education offers a delightful children’s program for children 2 years through 7 years of age. Their students learn about dance technique, creative movement, rhythm and basic listening and sharing skills while having a magical time twirling in their skirts and using their great big imaginations!

The children's program classes include:

Dancing with Mommy - This class is for 2 year olds and their Mommies.   During class, you will sing and move to using both small and large movements.  These fun activities are presented in an informal setting and are developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers to participate in regardless of their own abilities!

Creative Movement- Creative Movement is meant for the 3 year old student. This level introduces young students to music and movement. Students learn dance etiquette, discipline, and group interaction while developing coordination and musicality. Classes meet for 45 minutes.

Pre-Ballet I  - This class is for 4 year olds and serves as an introduction to the classroom and body movement for students. First Year Pre-Ballet classes meet for 45 minutes per week.

Pre-Ballet II  - These classes are for 5 year olds.  These classes are offered as a combination of ballet and tap.  They meet for one hour per week.

Level I -  This level is for 6 year old students.  When students enter Level 1, they can expect more intensive training. Classes meet once a week for one hour. Level 1 begins to develop a strong foundation for classical ballet.  These are combination classes offering ballet and either tap or jazz

Miss Gena Costello, who holds a degree in early childhood education, and Michele Zehner, who is certified by the American Ballet Theater to teach young children according to their program and standards, designed our program.  The staff at Florida School for Dance Education is caring and enthusiastic.

Dance is more than just another form of exercise for children. It provides exploration into the arts to which everyone should be exposed. At Florida School for Dance Education, students are inspired to learn how to use their bodies as a form of expression and an outlet for creative thinking. Learning this at an early age can provide life long benefits for our students in areas of coordination, problem solving, and self-confidence.  Join us to get your child started on the right foot with trained professionals.
