2021 Virtual ReTeach Waste Summer Program

July 12 to 16, 2021

By The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) March 24, 2021

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) will be offering its annual ReTeach Waste professional development program virtually this summer. This program is open to educators, both non-formal and formal, who are interested in a one-week, immersive experience centered on solid waste issues. The program will run daily from July 12 through July 16,  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During this week, participants will take virtual behind-the-scenes tours of various solid waste facilities, including one of the SWA’s transfer stations, Renewable Energy Facility 2, Recovered Materials Processing Facility (Recycling), the Greenway Trail System and more! The week will also include free educational workshops and materials provided through Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Project WILD.

After completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate and various guides filled with lessons and activities that meet national and state education standards.

In order to be eligible for the program, participants must be a local Palm Beach County educator (3rd grade and above) teaching in the subject areas of science, technology, engineering, or math.

The cost to participate in the program is FREE! They simply ask that you recycle an old, broken electronic device through their electronic recycling program. You can find the closest location of their seven Home Chemical and Recycling Center on their website at SWA.org/Facilities.

To apply, submit your application at their website at SWA.org/ReTeach by June 25, 2021. Applicants are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
