Experience our local America Recycles Day event with the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA). At this annual open house event, attendees can see how two million tons of garbage and recyclables are efficiently and economically managed each year. See first-hand how your blue and yellow recycle bin materials are processed to support the circular economy and watch your garbage get recycled into energy.

Onsite, to add to the fun will be nearly 50 environmentally-focused, arts and crafts and other vendors, plus food trucks, kids games, face painting, a puppet show, a heavy equipment expo, and a free tree giveaway!

New to the event this year is the SWA’s Plastic Bag Xchange2 Program and lithium battery collection.

Help keep plastic bags (a major source of contamination) out of the recycling stream and learn how to ‘recycle right’ by bringing two single-use plastic bags to the event and receiving two reusable bags in exchange. Use your new bags in your kitchen to help sort and separate your recyclables, according to the instructions on the bag. Then, conveniently carry your recyclables out to your curbside bins.

The use of lithium batteries is increasing. With expanded use comes increased fire risk. When lithium batteries are improperly disposed of, they can start a fire. Bring your lithium batteries and products containing them to the event for responsible disposal. Do your part and a fire won’t start.

This family-friendly adventure happens Sunday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SWA’s Education Center, 6751 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach. Learn more at swa.org/ard.
