Does your child love to sing? Did you know that singing will help them learn, develop stronger self-esteem, and form new friendships? In addition to improving vocal and performance technique, being in a choir is beneficial in the development of stronger social skills, emotional expression and management; improving in academic performance in reading, cognition and math; boosting self-confidence, building self-discipline, and instilling satisfaction of being part of a peer group. In short, singing in a choir supports and enhances all other aspects of a child’s education and personal growth.
Young Singers of the Palm Beaches, or YSPB for short, is a 22-year-old community children’s choir. Their mission is to teach life skills through choral music. YSPB is an inclusive choral community where young people join together to create inspiring singing experiences.
Headquartered at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Young Singers welcomes children in grades 2 through 12 through a short audition process. YSPB also has a second rehearsal location at the Boynton Beach Cultural Center for children in grades 3 through 5. Currently, YSPB is about 350 members strong, separated into 6 grade-level choirs.
Twice a year, the Young Singers performs on the main stage of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, and throughout the year smaller ensembles perform around our community and at public and private events. There is a tuition fee associated with joining the choir. Families that qualify may receive financial assistance as Young Singers is committed to reaching all children who want to sing, regardless of their ability to pay.
YSPB invites your child to register for an audition on September 3rd or 4th at the Kravis Center, or September 4th, 11th or 18th at their South County rehearsal. Audition requirements and registration can be found on their website, www.yspb.org/audition.
Young Singers of the Palm Beaches is sponsored in part by the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, Palm Beach County Tourism and Development Council, Discover the Palm Beaches, The State of Florida: Division of Arts and Culture and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
