Dance Theater of FL: Raising the Curtain on a New Elevated Experience

By Dance Theater of Florida October 3, 2024

In an unexpected turn of events, the Dance Theater of Florida (DToF) was forced to relocate from its long-standing home. Over the last few months, the Dance Theater found temporary accommodations to ensure their dance instruction continued without interruption, and to allow  them to prepare for their upcoming Winter Performance, The Bell, on December 14, 2024… all while maintaining its reputation for excellence.

After 13 years of providing high-quality dance education in their current location, the organization is excited to be relocating to a new studio space to better serve its community of dancers and families. Soon the historic old Playmobile building on Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens will be their new home. The building, which is undergoing renovations, is being brought back to life, transformed into a vibrant space for the Dance Theater.

The new location will feature five state-of-the-art dance studios, each equipped with floating floors designed to enhance both the dance experience and the safety of the dancers. This upgrade underscores Dance Theater of Florida’s commitment to providing top-tier dance education in a safe and inspiring environment. The studio will also include dressing rooms, a lobby, and advanced security systems, allowing parents to conveniently view their child’s classes from their phones.

Expanding Community Impact

Dance Theater of Florida’s full complement of dance disciplines will continue to be offered. Children aged 2-6 are welcome to join their Children’s Division. Studio classes for ages 7 and up include a wide variety of class selections including ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, and cirque/acro. Pre-professional and professional instruction are available for dancers by audition. In addition to its ongoing instruction, the new space will enable DToF to expand its programming to serve a broader segment of the community. Plans are in place to collaborate with local schools, including nearby Grove Park Elementary and other Title 1 schools. The studio will also  offer programs for children with special needs and adult learners, making dance accessible to a wider audience. As their slogan says, “Every Dancer Counts.”

This emphasis on personal growth, discipline, and artistry has fostered a loyal community of  students and families who value the theater’s approach to dance education. Michele Zehner,  Executive Director noted, “We want our students to continue to feel at home here, no matter the  location. Our goal is to always make sure that the personal touch, the one-on-one attention, and  the passion for dance that we’re known for continues to shine through.”

Raising the Curtain on An Elevated Experience

With construction expected to be completed by the end of 2024, Dance Theater of Florida is already planning a grand opening celebration on Saturday, January 25, 2025. DToF invites the community to “be a part of the movement” and enjoy the day which will feature a "Dancing with the Stars" competition, a silent auction, food, drinks, and a variety of festivities.

The Dance Theater of Florida's move to this special new space reflects its ongoing journey to create a home where dancers of all levels can thrive, in a setting that promotes both personal and artistic growth. As the Dance Theater prepares to settle into their new “castle,” they remain focused on their mission to provide world-class dance education while fostering a sense of community and creativity. They can’t wait to continue nurturing their dancers and expanding their outreach to new audiences, ensuring a future filled with artistry, growth, and opportunity.
